Job Description
A job description needs to describe more than just the basic requirements and skills needed for the position. It should communicate the type of person that would best fit in with your company culture and environment. One way to do this is to include your company’s mission statement and core values in your job description. Also, share a few phrases and keywords that describe what is important to your company. For example, the shoe company TOMS includes their mission in their job description:
“Why work for TOMS? We are more than a company, we are a Movement. At TOMS we take our mission of “Improving lives through business” very seriously and we hope you will too.”
If CSR is important to you, then it should be apparent in your job description to help attract like-minded job seekers.
Company Website
After a candidate sees your job description or becomes interested in your company, the next place they will look for more information is on your company website. Just like the job description, your website should include your mission statement and company values. Also, make sure to announce any upcoming charities events you plan on attending or local community programs you donate time to on a weekly basis. These announcements can be featured in an events section of your website, in a blog post or press release, or even a page dedicated to community outreach. However you choose to do it, it’s important to be consistent and honest with your marketing. If you’re only donating money for only altruistic purposes, candidates will see right through it and your strategy will backfire.
Social Media
Finally, use social media to help create awareness about the causes your company is passionate about. One way you can do this is to start a campaign dedicated to your cause. For example, Target started a #GiveWithTarget campaign to help allocate a 5 million dollar donation across US schools. Another way to promote your company’s causes is to get your employees involved. Have your employees add Volunteer experiences and causes they support to their LinkedIn profiles since job seekers will often check out current employees’ profiles and backgrounds.
Creating awareness about your company’s socially conscious culture can improve your chances of being seen by the type of talented job seekers you want to attract. And as the job market shifts in the candidate’s favor, promoting your socially conscious company can be seen as a huge differentiator and perk for job seekers.
